Privacy Policy
Canola Lane Driving School (“we”, “us”) respects your privacy. This policy explains how we collect, use, disclose and protect personal information in line with the Personal Information Protection and Electronic Documents Act (PIPEDA), which governs private-sector organizations in Manitoba, and Canada's Anti-Spam Legislation (CASL).
1. Who is responsible
Our Privacy Officer is accountable for compliance with this policy. Contact: [email protected], +1 204-994-7488, 43 Portside Drive, Winnipeg, MB R2N 0E2.
2. What we collect
- Booking details — name, phone, email, licence stage, preferred times, pick-up area and any notes you choose to share.
- Lesson records — dates, instructor, progress notes and payments.
- Licence information — we may view your learner licence before a lesson to confirm you may legally drive; we do not keep a copy unless you agree.
- Website data — with your consent only, analytics data such as pages visited and approximate location.
3. Why we use it
- To respond to requests, schedule lessons and send reminders.
- To keep progress notes and plan your next lesson.
- To process payments and meet tax and accounting obligations.
- To send tips and offers — only if you gave express consent.
- To improve the website, using aggregated analytics if you allowed analytics cookies.
4. Consent
We collect, use and disclose personal information with your consent, which may be express (for example, ticking a box) or implied where appropriate. You may withdraw consent at any time, subject to legal or contractual restrictions and reasonable notice; we will explain the consequences, for example that we may not be able to schedule lessons without a phone number.
5. Commercial electronic messages (CASL)
We send promotional emails or texts only to people who gave express consent, or where implied consent exists under CASL (such as an existing business relationship within the permitted period). Every message identifies Canola Lane Driving School, includes our contact information and an unsubscribe link, and unsubscribe requests are processed within 10 business days.
6. Sharing
We do not sell personal information. We share it only with service providers who help us run the business (for example scheduling, payment processing, email and hosting), under contracts that require them to protect it, or where required by law. Some providers may store information outside Manitoba or Canada, where it may be accessible to authorities under local law.
7. Retention and safeguards
We keep booking and lesson records for as long as needed for the purposes above and to meet legal requirements (generally up to seven years for financial records), then securely delete or anonymize them. We protect information with physical, organizational and technical safeguards appropriate to its sensitivity.
8. Privacy breaches
If a breach of security safeguards creates a real risk of significant harm, we will notify affected individuals and report to the Office of the Privacy Commissioner of Canada as PIPEDA requires, and keep a record of all breaches.
9. Cookies and analytics
Optional cookies are off by default. When you first visit, you can accept all, reject optional cookies, or choose in Settings. We use Google Consent Mode v2 with all categories set to “denied” until you choose; Google Analytics loads only if you allow analytics. You can change your choice at any time via “Cookie settings” in the footer.
